11.30.20 New to MPBR- Meet Brooks

Hi, I’m Brooks! I’m about 4 months old and roughly 30 pounds already, so I’m going to be a big boy! I came to Minnesota from Tennessee with my litter mate, Dunn (who you'll meet later). We were found abandoned on a set of railroad tracks. I play great with other dogs and do amazing with small children. I do well around cats all though they do scare me a little bit. I especially love humans and my foster moms say I’m an excellent cuddler and I snore like an old man. I sleep all night in my crate with no accidents. I do well in my crate if I know I’m not alone, but I get pretty scared and cry very loud when I think I’m alone. My potty training is going very well, and I rarely have accidents, but I need to learn how to let my humans know when I have to go. My foster moms think that my best traits are how gentle and calm I am. I’ve never even nibbled a finger and I’m a very laid-back puppy. I’m naughtiest when I try to pick up and chew things I’m not supposed to; socks are just so nummy! I’ve learned how to sit, and I’m working on lay down and shake. I even let my foster mom trim my nails and love car rides! All in all, my foster moms love having me and think I’m the best puppers. I am so excited to find my forever home! Could it be you?

11.28.20 Happy Birthday 'Nut' Litter!

It's an adoption update- Birthday Edition!

Happy Birthday to these 'Nut' pups!
There are 14 doggos total in this litter and they celebrated their very first birthday yesterday.
We wanted to check in and see what they've been up to. Enjoy!

Formerly Known As

Nicknames

Foster parent(s)

Favorite Things:

What does your dog love? Hazy's favorite things include her ropes to play tug of war, bones, and Turkey Jerkey treats. Hazy loves snuggling and drowning whoever is near her in kisses and affection. She loves playing fetch outside and will run until she can't anymore! Hazy also loves playing with other dogs any chance she gets.

What do you love most about your dog?
It's hard to choose just one thing that we love most. She is truly our sunshine! If I had to narrow it down, I would say the thing I love most about Hazy is that she loves to snuggle just as much as I do :)

What do you think is the best part of owning a pit bull?
I think the best part of owning a pit bull is that they love being your best friend as much as you love being theirs. They are incredibly smart and loyal which makes them wonderful companions!

Spread the Love:

We are so thankful for Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue for bringing Hazel into our lives, we are so grateful for all who are involved in the rescue!

11.25.20 New to MPBR- Meet Naomi

Welcome Naomi to MPBR!

Naomi is around 5-6 months old. She is crate & potty trained. At first, she seems like a low energy dog but once she gets to know you, she'll open up and show you her puppy energy. Naomi will need a patient person/family. She is very shy and takes some time to come out of her shell. She lives in a home with another dog and has done well as other dogs have helped her with her confidence. She has not met any felines but her foster parents note she is fine around chickens. Naomi is easily startled by fast movements and loud noises, so older children who are calm, have experience with dogs, and can understand and recognize the patience needed for her to trust you will be best.
Additional Info from her Foster: This dog has the sweetest disposition and heart. When she opens up, she also has the goofiest personally. I would say it’s important to understand she isn’t just a shy dog – she is a fearful dog and will need a special family to become part of, preferably someone who has had experience with fearful dogs and/or understands and is willing to take on the training needed to help her grow. If your instinct is to feel sorry for Naomi, you might not be the person for her. She needs an owner who will have the patience and determination to work toward the dog she can be with a confident and upbeat presence. Our experience has shown us that owners who operate out of sympathy tend to “freeze” dogs like Naomi in place of continued fear when the dog truly needs encouragement to help them grow through a solid foundation and ongoing training.
If you’re interested in meeting Naomi, please visit www.mnpitbull.com adoption information and our online application.

11.23.20 New to MPBR- Meet Harbor

Join us as we welcome Harbor to MPBR!

Just over 8 weeks old, this little guy (all 6 lbs.) is searching for a place to call his own. Harbor's favorite activities include playing tug, eating, pulling pant legs, snuggling, and investigating the world. For such a small guy, he is full of curiosity and has quite an adventurous spirit! Harbor is very high energy and will require a lot of enrichment (and patience) from his new family. Though Harbor is extremely cute, if you’re looking for an “easy” puppy, he is not the one for you. Training will be key for this little guy.

11.20.20 Give to the Max Update

2020 has been a year of surprises, no doubt, but none have been as pleasant as the HUGE surprise we got yesterday when all of YOU, our supporters, not only met our fundraising goal for Give to the Max this year, but exceeded it!
We didn’t know what to expect going into this fundraising event, some would say this past year has been a constant exercise in disappointment, unmet expectations, and hardship on various levels. But the supporter response this year blew us away like never before and showed us that no matter how tough times are, there is a flip side to the human condition too.
As board member Joan put it when we were all reacting to the news this morning, “maybe just slowing down a bit in day to day life helps us humans to gain a little perspective and take the time to support what is dear to our hearts.” Your generous hearts have shown us once again that these dogs and our work with them matters to you, and we can’t thank you enough for that.
Thank you also to our volunteers and fosters who help make this all possible. Thank you for opening your hearts and sharing your stories with us. We’re lucky to have each and every one of you on our team. View a recap of our day here

11.19.20 It's Give to the Max Day!

We think it’s safe to say 2020 is a year that none of us saw coming. Being a non-profit, we rely heavily on public events for donations and, as we all know, this year was the year of cancelled events. We’re fortunate in that the pandemic has brought many new adopters to our rescue but on the flip side, we cannot operate on adoption fees alone. We’re able to rescue many dogs with medical issues because of our supporters. These are dogs who, without help from people like you, would face euthanization simply because shelters do not have the means to save them all.

Today we will share stories written by foster parents, volunteers, and even adopters. These will be stories of our dogs over the past year, their challenges, and how their lives look now. As you read through these stories, you will see that adoption fees often don't begin to cover the various costs that come with some dogs. Some we take on knowing there will be challenges; others it only becomes clear once we have them with us for assessment.  We owe it to each dog to see our commitment through to the very end and not give up, especially not because cost stands in our way.  This year has shown us that our followers continue to bless our program and make this work possible, even when times are not the greatest for many.

To date, we have taken in 156 dogs and 149 of them have been adopted.  Clearly, we're not a big Minnesota rescue. Our rescue does not have paid employees or a shelter. What we do have are volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and efforts and we have foster homes for the dogs to call "family" until their forever people find them. You, our supporters, have shown us that we don't have to be a big rescue to garner your backing and we are always humbled each year during Give to the Max.  Thank you for your past support, and we hope 2020, with all its challenges, has also brought some bright spots for you too. Today we celebrate just that--both the challenges and the bright spots of our year in rescue.

Please help us reach our goal by donating here. Like previous years, any donation of $100.00 or more will earn you a one of a kind, MPBR #GTM20 hoodie as a thank you.

11.14.20 Behind the Scenes with Smokey

Behind the Scenes, with Smokey!

Smokey had his third appointment with Dr. Kirsten Caskey with Chiropractic for EveryBody - Animal Chiropractic earlier this week. Smokey’s first appointment consisted of an evaluation and just a small chiropractic adjustment. His second appointment included another adjustment and acupuncture with 24 needles. Appointment number three was another adjustment and more acupuncture with 32 needles for the full time. He has been super cooperative and tolerant of all the handling. Dr. Kirsten said she believes he has more strength in his legs now due to how he has been able to catch himself better on the slippery floor in the room, but he is still severely lacking in his overall control of his legs. He’s had some great progress in just 3 visits, we remain hopeful for this boy!

11.13.2020 New to MPBR- Meet Senna

Sweet Senna was found as a stray with her whopping 10 puppies in Texas.

We made room for the whole family & mama got a little help raising her babies while learning what it meant to have a home. When she arrived, she was very skinny and timid. She still shies away from loud noises and scary objects. She will need a home that is committed to helping her build confidence and help her to realize that the world is not such a scary place. Now that her “Super Cars” babies are all adopted, she is looking for a family that will let her be the baby. She is still very young dog with a lot of love to give.
Please read more about Senna here.
If you're interested in meeting one on one, please read our adoption information and fill out the adoption application at www.mnpitbull.com.

11.12.20 Foster of the Month- Meet Lia

October 2020 Foster of the Month-

Meet Lia!

Where are you from and what do you do for a living?

We live in Burnsville; I am currently a medical coder and formerly a vet tech.

There are a lot of great rescues in MN, why did you start volunteering specifically for MPBR?

Pit Bulls have always had a special place in my heart, and they are often misunderstood. I wanted to be a part of finding them the right homes and representing them in a positive way

When your friends/family find out you volunteer with a pit bull rescue, what do they say or ask?

Something like “that’s awesome, I couldn’t do that” or “how do you not want to keep them all?”

How long have you been fostering with the rescue?

We just took in our first foster in October 2020.

Who was your first foster?

Noah, great dog & great first experience!

Brewsky & Naomi
Naomi

Are you currently fostering anyone right now?

Yes, Naomi is a 5-month-old pup who came to us very scared. We are still working on getting her ready for adoption.

Do you have any pets of your own?

Yes, Brewsky was our very first foster (fail) as a parvo puppy, he is about 5. The other dog in the picture is Daphne, she was 10 and passed away this year. I rescued her as a puppy. Both of our dogs were in our wedding in May!

How would your pets describe you?

Pretty boring for 8 hours of the day, ugh. A little smothering and needy sometimes, what’s with all the kisses? Stupid human who falls for throwing the ball once when she knows it’s a promise for at least an hour more, every time.

Where's your favorite dog-friendly place to bring your dog?

We use the Sidewalk Dog Brewery passes all year long and love to go to the dog friendly breweries, so many good ones but favorites include Bauhaus and Urban Growler

What are your hobbies?

Does going out to breweries with my friends and dogs count? Yes, yes it does.

Noah

Do you have a favorite memory that happened while you were fostering?

Just 2 fosters under our belt so far, but matching Noah with his new family and leaving him there feeling great about it was a very good moment!

Do you have any special tradition with each foster?

We have a cupcake bakery nearby, I get pupcakes for all the dogs involved (including ours).

11.11.20 New to MPBR- Meet Poppy

Welcome to MPBR, Poppy!
He's actually been here for awhile but we wanted to give him time to acclimate. You see, Poppy is somewhere between 4-5 years old and has lived most of his life in a rural shelter. You can imagine how different things must be for him now. Soft couches, carpet under his toes, and now snow on the ground!
Poppy does well with other dogs but we are unsure with cats or kids. He is also kennel trained.
There's a whole bunch of information listed in his bio which you can view here (the link will remain active until he is pending adoption).
Please read our adoption information and fill out an application at www.mnpitbull.com if you'd like to meet him one on one 🐾
