2.28.20 Adoption Update- Copper

Many of you followed along with us as Copper traveled from Texas to Minnesota. We're very happy to announce Copper has found his perfect match and is now living his best life with his new family. Here's an update from his new mom.

My husband Nicolas started following MPBR on social media back in 2006 while he was searching for his first dog. He ended up adopting an AmStaff elsewhere, but we’ll fast forward 13 years later to when our hearts were broken. We had just lost our beloved dog, Decah, to lymphoma. Luke, our 6-year-old son, took it very hard as Decah helped tremendously with his anxiety. We absolutely were not looking for another dog after our loss but then, one evening Nic showed me a beautiful young boy named Copper, who kept popping up in his social media feed. Nic had an attraction (an instinct really) that he had to meet Copper. So, we applied and kept it a secret from the kids. Nic was the first to go and meet Copper. He came home raving about him. I saw the light in his eyes, and I knew it wouldn’t be long until we all were meeting Copper. Copper reminded us so much of our 4-legged angel and just how much we missed having a dog in our home.

During our meeting, Copper was very cool. He didn’t pay us too much attention, but he greeted us, and he knew we were there. He was very attentive to his foster mom and would look to her for guidance and we loved how he checked in with her. We knew he was extremely smart. He played toys with us and let us pat him goodbye. It took us all of 2 miles down the road to decide he was our missing piece. After a couple of weeks, we finally got the news that we were selected to take him home. How lucky did we feel to be selected from many applicants, for the only dog we applied for?! We were beyond blessed. I ugly cried and got online instantly to order him many toys and treats. He still gets packages weekly 😆😊

We don’t see it as we chose Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue, but more so that they chose us. We were able to bring home the famous “bull in a china shop” dog, who came up from Texas, who fills our hearts and home to completion. He thinks he’s a lap dog and is incredibly affectionate.

He’s just the sweetest boy. He’s totally unaware of his own size and strength and will crash into everything when he’s in full play mode, but It doesn’t matter. Copper is our family.

He has calmed down a lot in the last 4 weeks though. He has made himself comfortable on the couch, paws at the back door when he wants to go explore outside and will literally bark at me when I sit down but he wants me to get up and play. He loves attention and isn’t shy to let you know when he needs it! He’s not a huge fan of the colder weather but when it gets nicer, he will have 5 acres to explore in our backyard. It’s a lot of room to play with his favorite ball!

We have Chippewa National Forrest to look forward to this summer and I can’t wait to see how he likes the lakes.

We don’t know what he’s been through, but hopefully he knows he’s home, safe, and is very loved. ♥️ We are extremely fortunate and grateful to MPBR for this wonderful gift to our family and to Copper.

A very special thank you to Copper's new mom, Ashley for this great update!

2.19.20 Claire Bear

Let's learn more about Claire! She came to MPBR from Texas with her pups Cam & Haley who have both been adopted 💛

Claire is a sweet little lady that can be a little shy in new environments. When she first arrived to us, she was very scared and unsure of the new surroundings, but she has really come out of her shell with us over the past month. She loves to be close to you and will definitely invade your “personal space” bubble. She gets along well with our adult male and female in the house. Although, due to her heart worm treatment, she needs to remain calm so time together is monitored to make sure there isn’t much play time. Overall, she loves to be close and cuddle and/or chew on a bone next to you. She has some basic manners to solidify and some confidence building to do, but hopefully that will come much easier once she is fully healthy again! Claire won’t be at any adoption events until she is done with treatment but would be open to individual meetings one-on-one if a potential adopter wants to wait to adopt or is interested in a foster-to-adopt arrangement until her heart worm treatment is complete.

🐾Want to meet Claire? Please fill out an application at www.mnpitbull.com so a one-on-one can be arranged.

2.18.20 National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month

February is National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month!

There are many health benefits to spaying or neutering your pet. Most importantly, you will be helping with the issue of pet overpopulation. In lieu of having a Dog of the Month, Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue has decided to spread the love -responsibly- to 10 dogs in the month of February. If your dog still needs to be spayed or neutered, please reach out to us at adopt@mnpitbull.com. Here's a couple things you should keep in mind:
  • The spay/neuter appointment will be made in the Twin Cities. You may need to travel outside of your city.
  • This will be at no cost to the owner, MPBR will be covering the cost.
  • This will be offered to the first 10 dogs whose owners reach out to MPBR in February

Let's help keep Cupid's arrow away from your dog this February!

2.12.20 Volunteer of the Month- Meet Taylor

January 2020 Volunteer of the Month-

Meet Taylor!

How did you find out about Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

I first heard about MPBR while searching for my own pup to adopt.

Why did you decide to volunteer for MPBR?

I began volunteering to give back to the rescue. I'm so grateful to have found my pup through them!

How long have you been volunteering with the rescue?

I have been volunteering for about 8 yrs.

What was the last thing you volunteered for?

The last thing I did to volunteer was delivering adopted puppies to their forever homes and completing home checks.

Do you have any pets of your own?

I currently own one dog ( Cedar ).

At Stanley's in the Mutt Hut

Where is your favorite dog-friendly place to take your pups?

My favorite dog friendly place is likely any patio in the summer. My go-to winter spot is Stanley’s Mutt Hut in NE MPLS.

When you're not surrounded by dogs, what can you be found doing?

When I’m not around dogs I’m usually traveling or at work tattooing.

Mello living his best life
Do you have a favorite memory that happened while you were volunteering?

My favorite memory so far is hard to choose but having my Dads adopt my last foster dog is up there on the list!

Do you have any advice for current or future volunteers?

My advice for any volunteer or future volunteer would be to be patient and keep up the involvement when you can! No task is too small and every little thing helps the gears keep moving :)

............................................................................................................................................................

Each month an active volunteer is featured on our website & receives a gift card as a thank you. This is just a small way for us to show our appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have for this rescue. We are 100% volunteer based and we couldn’t do this without each and every one of our members
