1.25.18 Featured Foster September Edition

Meet Joan!

Perma
Moose
Who was your first foster?

My first foster was an 8 week old puppy named Moose. I was hooked-he was the sweetest baby ever.

Who is your current foster?

Beautiful Perma who came to us with 6 puppies. The puppies are old enough to be in individual foster homes now but I had them too until they were 8 weeks old.

Why did you start volunteering?

I started volunteering when I got a call from my long time trainer, Tiffany, who is a big supporter of the rescue. There was a big litter of puppies that really needed foster homes. I have continued as there is always a need.

How long have you been volunteering with our rescue?

I have been involved with the rescue for 4 years. I respect and support the process in place for screening and adoptions. I believe the rescue always puts the effort into finding a good fit for our dogs & the adoptive families.

Do you have any pets?

Yes. I have 2 dogs of my own. Both were acquired from people I know who needed to re-home them. Monty (yellow lab) is 8 years old and Bella (Australian Shepard Mix) is 4 years old. They are both relaly great dogs. I always say two dogs is my limit so I can keep fostering. Otherwise I would have already been a foster fail for sure!

Where is your favorite dog friendly place to take your pooches?

I really love to be able to take them to walking trails and parks.

When not surrounded by dogs – what can you be found doing?

I love spending time with my family. I have been blessed to be able to care for a wonderful girl with special needs for 16 years, She is apart of my family (she just moved in to a group home at age 24). I enjoy spending time at my seasons camper, hiking, road trips, friend weekends away, an occasional casino run, an occasional good book, all the sappy Christmas movies, sitting on my deck bird watching, and volunteering for many great organizations. I also work as an Operations Manager in Brooklyn Park.

Do you have a favorite memory with one of your fosters?

I do not know if I could pinpoint just one. It is amazing to me how different and special they all are. I have learned, laughed, and sometimes cried for all of them. Each one of my fosters has had a special place in my heart and always will. Watching them become themselves, develop, and finally go to their foster home is so fulfilling.
