1.26.18 Meet Bronx! (Update:Adopted!)

Meet Bronx

Age: Six Months (as of 1/21/18)

Activity Level: Active, happy, but can chill on the couch too.

Things I like to do: chase a ball, play with toys, play with my resident dogs, run in the yard, cuddle, and wiggling.

Things I know: Potty trained! Sit, treat, sit for feeding, kind of knows “leave it”. I am crate trained too!

Things I am learning: Come, down, working on leave it, basic obedience.

I’m good with kids, dogs, and cats. My previous owner had a cat & I did well at meeting a volunteer’s cat.

Size: stocky, low to the ground, about 40 pounds

Car Rides: Good
I am a happy, loving, wiggly, affectionate, kissy boy! I love everyone and every thing. I am learning about walking on a leash and I play well with other dogs in the yard. I am smart and have adjusted very quickly to the routines in my foster home. I am very treat motivated and I want to please. My foster family is amazed because so far, I do not make any sounds, not even whining! I would love to be in a home where I would get basic obedience training (or more.) After I run in the yard or go for a walk I like to lay by my foster family and chew a toy or snuggle on the couch and sleep. My foster mom wants you to know that I could NOT be any cuter!

1.23.18 Huey (Update: Adopted!)

Meet Huey

Name: Huey

Age: 7 Years

Weight: 70 pounds

Activity Level: Low/Moderate

Things I do in my free time: I love chewing on bones and taking naps!

Things I know: My name, Sit

Things I am learning: Come, Lay down (I'm getting close with this one!)

Kids: I get along with kinds great! Due to my size, I can bump into them from time to time so I'd do well with kids that are a little bit bigger than baby sized. Although, I'm a gentle giant so I'm sure I could learn to leave a bubble!

Dogs: I do well around medium to equal sized dogs, honestly I really don't seem to care about dogs too much, I'm kind of independent. Dogs 40+ pounds would be good for me.

Cats: I do not do well with cats or squirrels... small animals in general really.

Crate: I stay in a crate when my foster mom leaves.

Additional Info from foster parent:
Huey is a sweetheart of a dog. Love, love, loves people. Loves to snuggle. He's good with his foster sister, they pretty much just hang out. He definitely prefers the company of humans. He is housebroken. But he is pretty much the happiest dog & his tail is always wagging. Huey loves lying around and chewing on Nylabones and Benebones.

Huey needs work on obedience and on his leash walking. As of right now he will take you wherever he wants to go. Huey will need an owner that is prepared and committed to training with him.

If you've followed Huey, you've probably noticed he disappeared for awhile. We were so excited that this handsome hunk found a home. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, it sadly did not work out. This does happen from time to time. It definitely broke some hearts, including his former family. At MPBR we are determined to find a home that works for all of our dogs. We believe there is still a happy ending for Huey and look forward to his future! Could that be with you?

Adoption fee- $0 (waived)
Huey was the Dog of the Month for June 2017. Since he is still available, his adoption fee remains waived

Meet Gwen

Age: approximately 3-4 months old (as of 1/12/18)

Hi my name is Gwen. I love to be around people and get cuddled. I do have a hard time when put in my kennel, I will cry and bark for a few minutes. I do nap well in the kennel and chew on my rope toy that my foster mom gave me. It’s my favorite! My foster mom says I do great in my kennel (after a couple minutes) and loves that I’ve never had an accident in there.

At the moment I have two other furry friends at my foster home. A large male lab that plays with me and has become my buddy and a female pit bull that I love to play with as well as cuddle with in front of the fireplace. I love to play with them and they love me. My foster mom says I play well with others. However I’ve never been around cats but I’d love to meet one, I’m laid back enough that I think we could get along just fine.

I also know some tricks. I’m very consistent when told to sit and when told to lay down I get it about half the time. I also know ‘leave it’ when I start to get into something that my foster mom doesn’t think is good for me, that doesn’t happen often. Also I haven’t had any accidents in the house yet. I know to go to the door when I hear ‘let’s go outside’. I love being outside, even in the snow. When I’m done I just go and wait by the door to get back inside.

I love being around kids. I like to lay on their laps and be pet. I’m not really a chewer, except with my toys, and my foster family really thinks that’s great. I love to greet people when they come to the house and I still jump some but am starting to learn not to. When my foster mom has taken me out to places like PetSmart and Home Depot I am very good with people as well as on the leash. I don’t pull much and stay close to my foster mom.

My foster mom says that I am a very smart, sweet and loving girl. I learn quick and am motivated by food. I can’t wait to meet my new forever family. If you would like to cuddle and get some puppy kisses sometime please set up a time to meet me.

1.5.18 Jules Update

If you've been following Jules, you'll be happy to see she is doing SO much better!

To recap, Jules came to us with a severe case of mange. So severe that the vets in Texas commented it was the worse case they had ever seen.

Today, this girl is beautiful & healthy! She is still looking for her home.
If interested, please find information about Jules here.

A note from her foster- Jules is such a sweet girl. She loves to play with other dogs, showed respect to several felines, and loves to snuggle up to her person.
She would be a great addition to your family!

1.3.18 January Dog of the Month- Toby!

Toby is the Dog of the Month!

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix

  •
  • COAT LENGTH Short
    HOUSE-TRAINED Yes
HEALTH Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered.
GOOD IN A HOME WITH Other dogs, cats, children.

    Meet Toby:

    Name: Toby

Nicknames: Tobers, Tobes, Camo, Oooo run run, cha cha run!

    DOB: 5/18/2015

    Approximate weight: 55-60 lbs

    Color: Blonde brindle

What I know/What I'm working on: My foster mom and I are working on a lot of things! I knew how to sit coming into the rescue but not as diligently as many would desire so we're working on adding a little more precision as well as duration. We take a lot of short walks together working on leash manners and focus. I've picked up on the concept of down and we're now attempting to gain more commitment to the command as well as more duration. My foster mom is also attempting to help me gain an understanding and appreciation for 'relax' as a cue and easy default for me to go to in the future when I am out and about with my adoptive family. We are working on handling my feet some and looking to practice nail trims if I can stay committed to the process....those nail trims can be a little scary ya know! I also know how to be quiet in my crate but didn't like going into it with just command or without a treat to go after. I have started going into my crate with command and loving the treats that follow!

A little about me: I was initially found as a stray down in Texas and Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue saved me from losing my life! Once I arrived at my foster home it took me some time to truly become relaxed and show my real personality. I love to snuggle on the couch. I am currently with two other dogs and enjoy their company very much. I love to run around the yard and play but really love playing with just the toys and my foster mom. My foster mom has given me some funny nicknames because I've always had a funny habit of puppy zoomies ever since my arrival....it was the thing I did before even playing with toys here, well that and chewing on my nylabones and benebones. I've shown that I tend to get a little bored in my kennel and shouldn't have any blankets or soft toys in there as they may get me in trouble. I do get a little overzealous with toys I'm playing with so soft toys do require supervision. As I previously mentioned, I LOVE laying on the couch or in my kennel and chewing on nylabones and benebones!! I do snark a little and let the other dogs know that I don't like them crowding in on my space while I'm chewing on my bones so my free time with them is always supervised. My foster mom is teaching me to let go of things when I'm told, which is great because she almost always gives it back so I'm growing to like and trust it quite a bit! I'm a little too intrigued by the cats I'm staying with and their movements so it's probably best that I don't live with any in the future. I hope that you like what you read and will consider me for a member of your family!
    Sincerely,
    Toby
