5.28.20 New to MPBR- Meet Domina

Meet Domina

******************************

I know what you are thinking, "wow, what a pretty dog," and the truth is I am pretty, and I know it. However, I can't get by on my looks alone so here I am searching for a human who wants to put in the time, the effort, and the money to make me into a pretty amazing dog.

Here are some details about me that you should know:

Name: Domina
Breed: Purebred Dogo Argentino
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 90 pounds
Dogs: I love other dogs
Cats: no cats for this lady
Kids: kids must be 12 and over

I came from a shelter in MN to rescue. This placement was much better for me than being adopted through the shelter because I need a little extra from my humans. I spent a short time in a foster home where I proved I am not great with small kids, so I went off to training camp for the last 6 weeks. Now it is time for me to come home from camp and I am hoping to find a forever home who wants to continue to work with my trainer after I go home so I can start off on the right paw.

Needs:
Strong leadership skills
Knowledge of dog training
Provider of mental and physical exercise
Provider of structure and boundaries
Continued training inside and outside of the home

*if you are looking for a dog that you can cuddle, "baby", and let rule your house, I am not the dog for you and I will get myself into trouble.

If we sound like a good match, please visit www.mnpitbull.com to fill out an adoption application. From there, a Case Manager will contact you to schedule a private meeting.

5.27.20 New to MPBR- Meet Fallon

Meet Fallon

******************************

Name: Fallon
Nickname: Angel
Age: 6 Months Old (as of 5/5/20)
Gender: Male
Breed: Pitbull mix
Current Weight: 20-25lbs

Dog friendly: Yes
Cat friendly: Yes
Kid friendly: Yes

House Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: In Progress
History: Fallon traveled to Minnesota by way of Texas as an unclaimed stray.
Adoption Fee: $350

From the Foster: Fallon is a little cuddle bug. He currently lives with a 2 year old pittie and they became the best of friends almost immediately. We do not have cats or kids, but his previous foster in Texas mentioned he did well with both. His Texas foster also said Fallon did not do well walking on a leash but he must have learned from the resident dog what to do because he did really well! Fallon is currently learning crate manners, so far he isn’t much of a fan. His last foster said he was house-trained and I would have to agree, so far so good! He is sweet, loving, and very playful. Fallon will be a great addition to any home!

Please fill out an adoption application at www.mnpitbull.com if you're interested in meeting Fallon.

5.26.20 New to MPBR- Meet Korbyn

New to Rescue, meet Korbyn!

He is approximately 6 months old, loves kids, dogs, and is crate trained!

History: Krobyn traveled to Minnesota from Texas. He came into the rescue with a case of non-contagious mange which is a skin disease caused by parasites. The good news is that he has been receiving medicated baths which have already made a HUGE improvement. Check out his bio or more pictures (including his before picture) and more info!

From the Foster: Korybn is a very sweet boy who likes his people, is very treat motivated and loves to snuggle. He listens very well. He has recently learned that he likes to dig but we are working on not doing that. He knows the word ‘No’ and ‘Sit’. He is scared of going up stairs but not going down them. With a little bit of confidence, he’ll be a Stair Master in no time! He is super sweet, loving and very smart. I think he will learn anything quickly and be a wonderful family pet! Any family will be very lucky to adopt him.

Are you interested in meeting Korbyn? Please fill out an application on our website, www.mnpitbull.com, so we can scheduled a Meet & Greet with you 🐾

5.20.20 Kaisa Update

We want to sincerely THANK EVERYONE who has shared her post, applied to Adopt/Foster, and tried to help Kaisa in any way.

We try to avoid posting urgent needs, and we don’t wish to villainize anyone in the process. Given the most up-to-date information we have received on Kaisa, we realized it would not be in her best interest, or the community’s, to move her from her existing home to a new one without a more thorough and impartial evaluation. Therefore, we have reached out to a trainer we have worked with before and secured her a spot for more assessment and training that will hopefully allow her to transition to a new home in the future.

We anticipate at least a 12 week training program for her and as you can imagine, that comes with a price tag. Our hearts were lifted by all your wishes to help Kaisa, and it is our hope that some of you can help us cover Kaisa’s training and care over the coming weeks. If you are able, please visit here

Thank you for everyone's help in saving Kaisa! We will continue to keep everyone updating with her progress in the coming weeks.

Original Post:
It is very rare that MPBR makes an urgent plea for a dog. Under normal circumstances, we have plenty of time to find a home for our dogs through our foster program. Unfortunately, this is not the case which is why we’re making a heavyhearted post in hopes that a potential home can be found for Kaisa. We have until Wednesday night (5/20) to find placement for her. This is our plea to our approved fosters and potential adopters.

Kaisa was born on June 20, 2014. She has been with her adoptive family for her whole life but has been available for adoption through our rescue for the last 2 years in hopes of re-homing her. We have featured her as our Dog of the Month several times & her adoption fee will remained waived.

She gets along with the other resident dog as he has a very calm demeanor. She would thrive in a home as the only dog or with another dog who has a similar (calm) personality. A two-week shut down would be needed in order to integrate her into a home with another dog. No felines, please.

This girl loves attention from humans. She currently lives with little ones ranging in ages from infant to 8 years old and gets along great with them. She would love a human that is home a lot as Kaisa has separation anxiety if she is left without someone home.

She knows basic obedience but does need guidance and additional training when it comes to walking nicely on a leash as well as help with her recalls (coming when called). She knows sit & lay down. She is also a master at waiting for her food until her parents tell her it’s ok to eat.

Kaisa has springs in her feet. She yearns for adventure in the great outdoors but will always need to be leashed. This kangaroo has no issues clearing a 6-foot fence.

If your home sounds like it could work for this beautiful girl, please fill out an adoption application at www.mnpitbull.com and #helpkaisafindherhome If you're an approved foster and willing to foster long term, please see the post in our Volunteer Group.

5.17.20 Support Sunday

We are so thankful. Our shelves are stocked & it’s all because of you 💙

Not only did you help fill the bellies of so many dogs but you also helped support a small business owner (Canine Crossing) and a MN based company (NutriSource Pet Foods) at the same time!

5.16.20 Danica, you're Pawesome!

We want to say a huge thank you to Danica over at Loon and Beau

Pre-pandemic, Danica would be whipping up the cutest bow ties & bandanas for your pups (and even donating a portion of the sales to animal rescues). She’s partnered with us at several events and we can’t say enough about how talented, down to earth, funny, and really just what an amazing human she is.

During COVID19 she’s continuing to show just how selfless she is by providing face coverings to those in need. Danica has started a great Buy One Give One initiative which results in donating a face covering and ear saver to local healthcare workers. Take a look at the post below to see some of the results from that initiative, it’s amazing!

Danica, we want to thank you for your generosity personally to our rescue but also for supporting the local community. Not all hero’s wear capes, but maybe you should ❤️

****************************************************
Here's a post from her page that made us smile:

My hope is that this is one of the coolest things you see all day.
I’ve been promising to fill you in on what we have been brewing up and I am so sorry that I have not don’t that sooner but here is one of the big reasons why.
When I started my buy one give one on face covers I knew there was a huge need for the general public as well as for the folks on the frontlines of the community. The need was larger than I could fill alone so I started the MN Mask Initiative.

We are a group of sewers and do gooders doing what we can to provide face covers, ear savers and hand sanitizer (shout out to Bent Brewstillery for that!!!!!) to folks in need.
Our biggest honor so far: working with the Maple Grove Governor to get all masks collected at the fire stations last Saturday clean, sorted, packed and donated to local nursing homes, health clinics, non profits and so much more.
This is what 5,000 masks look like. Take that in. Can’t believe the community we have in Maple Grove as well as Minnesota- kindness and well being will always win here.
My boyfriend, @darling_kyle1 (furloughed chef), spent 3 days single handedly getting these ready for distribution. Am I a lucky girl or what? Stay tuned and stay safe everyone.

5.15.20 A Note from Blackberry Veterinary

A good reminder from our friends over at Blackberry Veterinary Center, PLLC:

It looks alarming, but we assure you things are ok!
It’s that time of year again, gnats are out!

As warmer weather is FINALLY starting to come in, be advised that gnats will be as well. Here are a few examples of what gnat bites look like on your furry friends. Some of these lesions can look alarming, but know most of the time these lesions do not bother your companion and will go away on their own. But if they do become itchy or irritated you may apply some topical Cortisone cream to the areas and let it absorb into the skin for 5-10 minutes without your pet licking it off.
Be safe out there, and let’s get ready to enjoy some summer weather ☀️☀️☀️

5.13.20 Featured Foster of the Month- Meet Noelle

APRIL 2020 FOSTER OF THE MONTH-

Meet Noelle!

Why did you start fostering for MPBR?

We found our family member Millie (FKA Nikki) through MPBR and we fell in love with her and the rescue. We are passionate about changing the stigma around pit bulls and want to help other great dogs find their forever families!

Wrangler
Who was your first foster?

Wrangler AKA Zues who is now known as Scully.

How long have you been volunteering with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

Only a couple months! We are so thrilled to have the space and ability to open our home to those who need it.

When your friends/family find out you volunteer with MPBR, what do they say or ask?

They usually say, "wow, Millie is so friendly and loves people and other animals. I didn't know pit bulls were like that."

Wells *application pending*

Who is your current foster?

Wells.

Do you have a favorite memory with one of your fosters?

Seeing our first foster grow and change so much was amazing. It was way harder and sadder to have him leave than we thought it would be, but it was so fulfilling to see him find his forever home and to see how excited they were to have him.

Millie

Do you have any pets?

Just Millie, but she loves having foster siblings.

When you're not surrounded by dogs, what can you be found doing?

Pre-COVID, often at a brewery or local restaurant. We are homebodies, though, and like to hang with our pup while watching Netflix.

Where is your favorite dog friendly place to take your pups?

Our parents' house and lake cabins.

Do you have a special ritual you do for your foster pups?

Not yet, besides a celebratory/mourning adult beverage (or two) and lots of extra cuddles and attention for Millie.

..................................................................................................................................................

Each month one of our Foster parents will receive a gift card as a thank you. This is our small way of showing appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have to this rescue. Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue is 100% volunteer based. Each dog we are able to save is a result of someone willing to open their home for us.
