1.20.21 Foster of the Month- Meet Amber

December 2020 Foster of the Month-

Meet Amber!

There are a lot of great rescues in MN, why did you start volunteering specifically for MPBR?

I started fostering after losing my first adopted pit bull to a traumatic event. I knew after losing Bernie that I wanted to be a breed ambassador and I now understood the importance of us humans protecting and keeping our pit bull fur babies safe.

How long have you been fostering with the rescue?

I’ve been volunteering with the rescues almost 5 years.

Who was your first foster?

My first foster was Baylor.

Are you currently fostering anyone right now?

I don’t currently have a foster, but my last foster was Kaison.

Do you have any pets of your own?

I have two rescue dogs, Pia and Bruno. Bruno is a MPBR alumni. Pia has been an active Mother and trainer to the many foster dogs over the years.

Do you have a favorite or notable memory that happened while you were fostering?

One of my favorite memories is with my former foster dog Domino, now Winston. We were going for a walk in the winter with my two dogs. We did this every night and then one night while I was switching leashes in my hand a dog barked in a house and scared Winston. He took off running and my dogs and I chased after him calling his name trying to catch him. He ran a block took a left, ran another block, took a right and hid between mine and my neighbor’s house. When he came out from between the houses, I couldn’t help but break into tears of excitement that he made it home safe; not to mention that this little puppy knew exactly how to get home. Needless to say, moving forward I was much more careful with my hold on the leashes during walks!

..................................................................................................................................................

We are 100% volunteer based and we couldn’t do this without each and every one of our members

Each month an active volunteer is featured on our website & receives a gift (or gift card) as a thank you. This is just a small way for us to show our appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have for this rescue.

1.8.21 2020 Recap

2020- What an interesting year.

With all the ups and downs the year brought, we are thrilled to share these happy faces with you.

172 dogs were adopted in 2020, our largest number of adoptions yet! We cannot thank our fosters enough for opening their homes and making this possible. We owe our success to them. Since we do not have a shelter, or even an office, we cannot stress enough just how much of an impact they make. Thank you to all our volunteers for being able to adapt to the many changes that were implemented toward the end of 2020 due to the pandemic. Your ability to help keep the wheels in motion certainly did not go unnoticed. We have an amazing group of people are incredibly fortunate.

2021 is already off to an amazing start. We had 7 potential new fosters join our meeting last night and we cannot wait to see what this new year brings. If you’re interested in joining our team and saving a life, please visit www.mnpitbull.com/volunteer for more information. Natalie (our Volunteer Coordinator) and Joan (our Foster Coordinator) would love to speak with you about all the opportunities we have.

1.5.21 January Dog of the Month- Hope

January is here & that means there’s a new Dog of the Month 💚

It’s Hope's month!

Hope is 6 years old and does well with other dogs and kids (she has not met any felines but thinks the hamster is interesting and has done well just observing and letting it be). She also does great in her kennel during the day if her foster parents are busy or during the evening (as long as she is tucked in and gets her good night kiss). Hope's foster mom has nicknamed her 'Sweet Lady' because that is exactly what she is <3 She is very sweet and gentle even though she has had a rough go at life.

Hope had surgery Dec 4, 2020 to have two tumors removed and sent out to pathology. The pathology results on Hope's tumors came back as low grade mammary carcinoma. These particular tumors appear to have arisen from benign mixed mammary tumor. Carcinomas such as these tend to have a prolonged survival time. Based on her age and the prolonged survival time, we have decided not to put her body through the stress of chemo. We have faith that this sweet girl can live up to her name, although we do not know her life expectancy. We do believe she deserves a home of her own to spend her final days, months, (and paws crossed) years!

*Find more great information & photos of Hope here (if this link doesn’t work, it means her adoption is pending).

Hope's adoption fee is waived if an application is received this month! Let’s find this sweet lady the perfect home🏡

Head to www.mnpitbull.com for adoption information & fill out an application if you'd like to meet her one on one.
