How did you find out
about Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?
I have always had a soft spot for pitties, so I had followed MPBR on Instagram for quite a while and enjoyed soaking up all the adorable photos! We used to foster for Animal Humane Society but decided we would like to be able to focus specifically on pit bulls, especially knowing that they are so often in need.
Why did you start volunteering for MPBR?
My husband Josh and I are dipping our toes back into the water of dog ownership through fostering after losing our 14-year-old pittie mix Tupelo in November 2019. Josh also has some dog allergies, so fostering has been a good way for us to try out dogs to see if they bother him or not. Although I came in with the intention of fostering, I have loved the community of MPBR and it's been fun to get involved with other aspects of it as well!
How long have you been volunteering with the rescue?
Since April. Like so many others, we felt like it was a good thing to do during coronavirus quarantine.
Poppy |
I do quite a few reference checks, and I also got to transport adorable Poppy to her forever home. That was great because we tend to prefer to foster older dogs, but I always love to get puppy snuggles when I can!
Where are you from & what do you do for a living?
I’m in St. Louis Park & Marketing for Minnesota Public Radio.
Do you have any pets of your own?
Not at the moment. We lost our 14-year-old pittie mix, Tupelo, in November 2019, and then lost Chula very unexpectedly recently. We are hoping to "foster fail" one of these days!
How would your pets describe you?
A messy cook who can usually be counted on to drop something yummy on the floor :) Also, very snuggly and always giving a variety of nicknames to the pets.
Where's your favorite dog-friendly place to bring your dog?
We spend a lot of time in our beautiful backyard, where (fun fact!) Josh and I got married earlier this summer after our original wedding plans were affected by coronavirus. I also love Wild Mind Ales on the south side of Minneapolis, for both their creative beers and the array of dogs that can usually be found there!
When you're not surrounded by dogs, what can you be found doing?
Since COVID, a lot of stuff around the house.... I am a huge reader and try to read 100 books a year every year. I am addicted to the Great British Baking Show and have recently branched out into other British reality shows, such as Great Pottery Throw Down and Glow Up, as well as other international editions of the baking show (Canada and South Africa are great!)
Trinity |
I really loved doing the reference checks for Trinity, who was a beautiful tripod and went to a home where the dad had some medical issues involving mobility and his legs - it just felt like the most magical fit.
Do you have any advice for current or future volunteers?
Take a chance on fostering an older dog - they are so special.
Do you want to give a shout out to anyone in the MPBR family?
Amanda was our caseworker for Chula, who was our first foster, and is absolutely amazing. She was so caring and supportive as we navigated through Chula's health issues and ultimately her untimely loss.
