11.4.19 New to MPBR- Meet Bernadette!

Everyone, please meet Bernadette! She's a new face @ MPBR & we couldn't be more thrilled to have her. She does well with dogs, cats, & kids! She is about 6 months old and is eager to learn all there is to know about how to be a great dog!

You can meet her in person this Sunday at Prohibition Barbers, Inc during our Adoption Meet & Greet from 1-3 PM!

Meet Bernadette

Age: About 6 months (as of 11/4/19)
Activity Level: High
Things I do in my free time: Run around, chew on toys, eat, cuddle
Things I know: Sit, crate trained, mostly potty trained
Things I am learning: Off, no jumping, down
Kids: Has done well with them, but she is very excitable so young kids could be a concern without supervision and guidance

Dogs: Good (lives with adult male & female pit mixes and has done well meeting/playing with other adult pit mixes)
Cats: Did well with cats at her previous foster home
Size: About 35-40 pounds
Car rides: Rides well in the backseat

Additional Info from foster parent: Bernadette was rescued from a shelter in Dallas, TX with a pretty severe case of non-contagious mange. Mange is a skin disease caused by parasites. Had she received medication early on, she wouldn't have had to suffer like this. The good news is that medication has been administered and she is receiving medicated baths which have already made a HUGE improvement. Bernadette is very high energy and will need strong leadership to help her succeed and hold her accountable for her actions and manners. She likes to jump on people and counters if not supervised or guided, so we have been working on several things to help combat this. She would not sit at all when she first arrived, but within a couple of days she learned it! She’s not fool-proof on it yet, but continues to make great improvement with it, especially with continued follow through on our part. She loves to run around, go for walks, and play, but we are also trying to teach her the “art of calmness” while in the house. Therefore, she is she getting better about chewing on toys “peacefully” while in the house and will even settle down enough to cuddle up with us or the other dogs. We have only had Bernadette for a week (as of 11/4/19) so I’m sure she will continue to evolve and change as we continue to get to know each other and she learns more manners, but so far, she has been a very rewarding foster dog. She presents some challenges, but it is so fun to watch her learn and see her progress both mentally and physically. She is very eager to learn and please, she will follow you anywhere and is very fun to train because she is so dedicated to pleasing you.
