July 2019 Volunteers of the Month-
Meet Jared & Kayla!
How did you find out about Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?
We found out about the rescue through Facebook. We were looking at
available dogs to adopt and were wanting to find pit bull friendly pages to
join which lead to to finding out more information about the rescue and
volunteering.
Why did you decide to start volunteering for MPBR?
We started volunteering
because we wanted to make a positive impact for pit bulls and wanted to do what
we could to make sure they go to good homes because that’s what they deserve. We also wanted to do good deeds in our free time when we can, and hang out with
adorable pittie puppies and bigger adult pitties as well.
How long have you volunteered for the rescue?
We got involved with the rescue this spring.
Zola |
Do you have any pets?
We have one 3 & 1/2 year old female pit that we adopted through a
breeder. She came from a not so clean house/environment so we like to say
we rescued her. She’s been our baby ever since.
Where's your favorite dog friendly place to take your pup?
We like to take our dog, Zola, to Minnehaha Falls dog park because she
loves to swim in the river there and it is nice and big. We also frequent the
Battle Creek dog park. Zola’s most favorite place is our cabin in Danbury, WI,
she loves the land and the lake to swim in.
When not surrounded by dogs – what can you be found doing?
When we’re not hanging out with Zola or other dogs we’re probably at
work, or going places that are unfortunately not dog friendly. We like to go
for hikes or walks when we can to include her.
Selah |
Do you have a favorite memory that happened while you were volunteering?
All of our experiences with volunteering have been fun and rewarding,
but my favorite one was transporting a dog named Selah. She was the
oldest dog that we have transported but she was only 9 months old. We feel
like we connected and had the most fun with her while driving her to her foster
home. She’s a great spunky girl.
Do you have any advice for current or future volunteers?
Our advice (while volunteering) would be to think of yourself in the dogs place and decide if
a home would be somewhere you, as a dog, would want to live or have your own dog
live and see if it would be a good fit or not. Dogs have a different
language than us and sometimes it’s hard to understand what they mean, but
being patient and determined is the most important, especially with a breed
that is so misunderstood.
..............................................................................................................................................................
Each month an active volunteer is featured on our website & receives
a gift card as a thank you. This is just a small way for us to show our
appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have for this rescue. We are 100%
volunteer based and we couldn’t do this without each and every one of our
members ♥️
