12.5.21 Volunteer Highlight - Meet Kristen

We are 100% volunteer based and we couldn’t do this without each and every one of our members

Each quarter an active volunteer is featured on our website & receives a gift (or gift card) as a thank you, this quarter we'd like to say a HUGE Thank You to Kristen! This is just a small way for us to show our appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have for this rescue. Please read more about Kristen below & reach out to us if you'd like to join our crew, we'd love to have you!

- Q3 Volunteer: Meet Kristen-

Where are you from and what do you do for a living?

I have lived in Minnesota my whole life.  I recently downsized and moved to a new neighborhood.  Number one priority for my new house was to have a fenced-in back yard so I can keep my dog friends safe!  I was a stay-at-home mom for 25 years and now I work for a charitable gaming organization.  I love my job and the flexibility!

How did you find out about Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

I have a friend who adopted through them, and it drew my attention.  The dog was just so cute and fit right into their family well.  I decided right then to apply to foster and volunteer.

There are a lot of great rescues in MN, why did you start volunteering specifically with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

I looked into other organizations and while there are some great ones, I felt like MPBR fit with my beliefs about training, neutering, and adoption the best.

How long have you volunteered with MPBR?

It’s only been a few months, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, even if I’m only driving a dog from one place to another!  I’ve met some great people and of course ALL THE CUTE DOGS!!!

What was the last thing you volunteered for?

An adoption event for 11 puppies.  It was fantastic to meet all the potential adopters and get so much snuggle time with the pups!

Do you have any pets of your own?

I have a 9-year-old Springer that I share with my ex-husband and his wife.  They have a Springer too and the dogs are just so much happier when they are together, so we shuttle them back and forth now.  They get SO EXCITED when it’s time to change households for a while, LOL.   I also dog-sit in my home for several friends.  It keeps me on my toes.

How would you say your pets describe you?

They would tell you that I don’t sit down enough!

Where's a couple favorite places you like to go with your dog?

I haven’t taken my dog too many places.  She’s a bit anxious and prefers that the fun comes to her.

What are your hobbies?

Reading, walking, hiking, watching reality TV (shhhhh)

Scramble
Do you have a favorite memory of something that happened while you were volunteering?

Besides every minute that I fostered Scramble???  Yes, when I picked up Darla (from that litter of 11) and she snuggled up like she was “home”.  Favorite moment and a hard one, too!

Do you have any advice for current of future volunteers?

I would opt, after fostering, to have someone else bring the dog to its new home.  That was tough, man!!

Do you want to give a shout out to anyone in the rescue?

I have met some wonderful people, but I think Joan Lindquist is one of the most giving and amazing people I have ever met!!!  Laura is also FANTASTIC, but we’ve never met in person.
