10.22.19 More from Zariah

Zariah (left)
A few updates on Zaria. She recently became a tripod due to a previous injury that just wasn’t going to heal right but she’s doing so well!
1. Zaria has been accident free for one week. No accidents on the floor or in her kennel.
2. Zaria has been bell trained to tell her foster family when she has to go potty. That has been very successful and she's been ringing the bell with her nose.
3. Zaria has successfully gotten "sit" and "in your room" and "lay down" commands down.
4. Foster Grandma and Grandpa stayed over the weekend so she got lots of love, attention, and affection over the weekend and is officially pooped out.
THE WORK IN-PROGRESS
1. She knows how to jail break out of a plastic crate. Even with 3 legs, she is smart and can’t be slowed down.
2. Still working through barking in our kennel while left alone (but what foster mom considers a WIN) will only bark for 10 minutes vs. all day.

10.21.19 Featured Foster September Edition- Wendy

September 2019 Foster of the Month-

Meet Wendy!

Our Fosters- Texan, Clover, Chef & Aviana
Who was your first foster?

Texan

Who is your current foster?

Aviana @ The Howe
Aviana has just joined her new family, who are wonderful and perfect for her.

Why did you start volunteering for Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

After fostering many different breeds through a different rescue, we really fell in love with our Pit fosters. We wanted an opportunity to learn about one breed in depth and Pit Bulls have such fun and dynamic personalities, in addition to, being super smart and trainable. After doing lots of research and visiting events, MPBR just stood out to us with all the rad people who are involved and the overall vibe of the organization.

When your friends/family find out you volunteer with MPBR, what do they say or ask?

They get very excited and are disappointed when we are between fosters. My parents, who are in their late 70’s/early 80’s, want pictures immediately and scheduled visits to meet their new foster grandbabies. My friends request meet and greets and my colleagues ask when they are joining me at work/when are we getting a therapy dog for our school?

How long have you been volunteering with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

Since May 2019.

Our cat, Captain Morgan
Do you have any pets?

We do! Our oldest pup (11 ½) Stella, just lost her battle with a hip tumor, so we are a slightly smaller family now. Sierra, Jameson and our cat Captain Morgan will now have to take over the teaching and boundary setting to whomever we welcome in next. They do most of the work with our fosters, teaching them how to be a part of the pack. Now, if only we could teach our crew to let the littles out in the middle of the night, we’d be in business.

Our Crew with previous Foster, Chef
Where is your favorite dog friendly place to take your dogs?

We are considered regulars at both The Howe and Venn Brewing Company, which are in walking distance from us, and are known as the girls who foster adorable dogs. We take our fosters out on the town as soon as possible. Not only do staff rotate over to us but patrons come snuggle, take pictures, and leave with thoughts of Pitties on their minds. It’s also a great opportunity for us to get to know our pup and understand where the teaching and learning should begin.

When you're not surrounded by dogs, what can you be found doing?

It’s funny that that is genuinely difficult to answer! Outside of adventuring with dogs, I can be found listening to live music, hanging with friends (although my closest friends include lots of dogs), engaging in conversations about equity and race, and facilitating training on Trauma-Informed Schools, Restorative Practice and Cultural Proficiency.

Do you have a favorite memory with one of your fosters?

Clover in her shirt
3T is perfect for me!
Clover had a very large scar on her neck from a mass that was removed prior to coming to rescue. In order to protect her scar from scratching as she grew, she wore 3T toddler polo shirts. We collected (by donation and purchase) quite the wardrobe for her. She brought me so much joy and made it difficult to remember that dogs don’t typically wear clothes, especially in the summer.

Do you have a special ritual you do for your foster pups?

Taking our new foster to both Venn and The Howe are definitely rituals for us and ways we introduce our newest family member. We also try to get a picture of our foster with our crew at the backdoor in anticipation of going to the park, which miraculously works out most times.

Want to give a shout out to anyone in the MPBR family?

Ashley Auren and Corey Lundgren have been totally wonderful to work with. Whether trying to assist with photo shoots, folding t-shirts Marie Kondo style, offering advice for the naughty puppies, tag-teaming on transport or simply being a super solid point of contact, they both reinforce why we choose MPBR.

Each month one of our foster pawrents receives a gift card as a thank you. This is our small way of showing appreciation for the dedication our volunteers have to this rescue. Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue is 100% volunteer based- no shelters here! Each dog we are able to save is because a foster is willing to open their home for us

10.19.19 Why We Help TX

“You’re in Minnesota, why do you save dogs from the south?” This article is a great example of why the southern states need our help. We’re thankful for being able to team with Passport For Paws so we can help make a difference ♥️

TX is the top two states for the most euthanasia in 2017 and 2018.

10.18.19 Time with Ted

Ted is an excellent “helper” at getting the kids ready for school. Wouldn’t you agree? 🥰

Reminder- this guys adoption fee is waived through the end of the month in honor of National Pit Bull Awareness Month. Sure, Ted’s not a pittie but we know there’s gotta be a shepherd lover out there willing to give this boy a home🏡

10.18.19 August Volunteer of the Month- Adone

August 2019 Volunteer of the Month-

Meet Adone!

Wage
Who was your first foster?

Wage was my first and only foster. Her name is now Bella. She lives on Crooked Lake with a wonderful family with four kids.

Who is your current foster?

None. I’m looking forward to doing as much temporary fostering as I can!

How long have you been volunteering with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue?

It will be one year in February. I discovered MPBR at a “Puppy Kissing Event” and was totally hooked!

Adone's 'Crew'
Do you have any pets of your own?

Yes, three! A Bull Mastiff female named Inde. My daughter has a Bull Mastiff named Zeus (sibling to Inde) and she also has a Pit Mix named Rex. We all live together, and the four-legged babies are a big part of our pack!

Where is your favorite dog friendly place to take your doggo?

I don’t often take them anywhere as one or two have been dog aggressive and we don’t want to put them or another dog in that situation. It is very important to know your pets, this is an excellent decision & we're proud of you for making it, Adone!

When you're not surrounded by dogs, what can you be found doing?

I am always surrounded by my dogs. I’m a home body, so I am usually in the yard or surrounded by my babies on the couch!

Wage, out cold :P
Do you have a favorite memory with one of your fosters?

I hate to say it, but when Wage was totally knocked out, with four feet in the air! Spitfire all around! She was also quite a love when hiding in my potato or daisy gardens too!
