2.28.20 Adoption Update- Copper

Many of you followed along with us as Copper traveled from Texas to Minnesota. We're very happy to announce Copper has found his perfect match and is now living his best life with his new family. Here's an update from his new mom.

My husband Nicolas started following MPBR on social media back in 2006 while he was searching for his first dog. He ended up adopting an AmStaff elsewhere, but we’ll fast forward 13 years later to when our hearts were broken. We had just lost our beloved dog, Decah, to lymphoma. Luke, our 6-year-old son, took it very hard as Decah helped tremendously with his anxiety. We absolutely were not looking for another dog after our loss but then, one evening Nic showed me a beautiful young boy named Copper, who kept popping up in his social media feed. Nic had an attraction (an instinct really) that he had to meet Copper. So, we applied and kept it a secret from the kids. Nic was the first to go and meet Copper. He came home raving about him. I saw the light in his eyes, and I knew it wouldn’t be long until we all were meeting Copper. Copper reminded us so much of our 4-legged angel and just how much we missed having a dog in our home.

During our meeting, Copper was very cool. He didn’t pay us too much attention, but he greeted us, and he knew we were there. He was very attentive to his foster mom and would look to her for guidance and we loved how he checked in with her. We knew he was extremely smart. He played toys with us and let us pat him goodbye. It took us all of 2 miles down the road to decide he was our missing piece. After a couple of weeks, we finally got the news that we were selected to take him home. How lucky did we feel to be selected from many applicants, for the only dog we applied for?! We were beyond blessed. I ugly cried and got online instantly to order him many toys and treats. He still gets packages weekly 😆😊

We don’t see it as we chose Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue, but more so that they chose us. We were able to bring home the famous “bull in a china shop” dog, who came up from Texas, who fills our hearts and home to completion. He thinks he’s a lap dog and is incredibly affectionate.

He’s just the sweetest boy. He’s totally unaware of his own size and strength and will crash into everything when he’s in full play mode, but It doesn’t matter. Copper is our family.

He has calmed down a lot in the last 4 weeks though. He has made himself comfortable on the couch, paws at the back door when he wants to go explore outside and will literally bark at me when I sit down but he wants me to get up and play. He loves attention and isn’t shy to let you know when he needs it! He’s not a huge fan of the colder weather but when it gets nicer, he will have 5 acres to explore in our backyard. It’s a lot of room to play with his favorite ball!

We have Chippewa National Forrest to look forward to this summer and I can’t wait to see how he likes the lakes.

We don’t know what he’s been through, but hopefully he knows he’s home, safe, and is very loved. ♥️ We are extremely fortunate and grateful to MPBR for this wonderful gift to our family and to Copper.

A very special thank you to Copper's new mom, Ashley for this great update!
